What is Google Drive and why to use it?

This is an introductory article about Google Drive (previously known as Google Docs). In this we will discuss what really Google Drive is and why to use it. In the next post i will explain you the features of Google Drive and the installation of Google Drive Client Software. My target is to make you believe that it’s a must thing now to use any cloud based file storage service (like Google Drive).

Even if we have made an account at such service, most of us are not utilizing it at its potential. And of course it’s because lack of understanding and knowledge. But after reading this and other future articles, I hope to make you all a power user of Google Drive and other online file storage services.

Why To Store Files Online / On The Cloud

Why any of us really need to stores files on the Internet? What’s the point of doing it? Why to duplicate our files and make us more confuse? These are the definite questions which will come to your mind and its logical to think like that, when you have your computer running perfectly and you are quite comfortable with your setup.
Cloud Storage
Benefits Of Cloud Service

1. Once you store your files online, you can access your files from anywhere in the world
2. What if one day you wake up and discovered that your computer is crashed or hard disk is corrupt, all of your important files / folders are gone. No worries if you have saved your stuff on any cloud service, you can retrieve all of your date any time.
3. You can also use cloud services as a backup for your files
4. You can easily share your files with anyone and anytime you want
5. It’s not hard to use at all. Simple and easy steps make your files / folders available for you to access them online without any advance settings to understand.

What Is Google Drive
Google-Drive-Sync

To keep it simple, Google Drive is a Cloud Based File Storage service, which allows you to store your files on the Internet so that you can access them from anywhere in the world on any Computer, Smart phones and Tablets.

Note: I recommend to use Google Drive especially for your Documents (CVs, spreadsheets, presentations etc)

Difference between Google Docs and Google Drive

There is no difference between the two, in fact Google Docs has been enhanced to become Google Drive. Some features are the same, but many new features are added to make it more advance and useful. You can also say that Google Drive is a client software for Google Docs.

Why Google Drive

I am a strong follower of Google and a believer that their products are reliable, stable and offer you tons of features with lots of enhancements to expect in the coming future. Most important is that any Google service is not an individual products or software, but it’s a part of other Google services which integrates with each other and gives you a fantastic web experience. Just make a single Google Account and you have access to all of the Google services, using them will make you more productive and efficient.

Google Drive offers you to install a small application on your computer, tablet and smart phones. Installing it will make a folder on your computer. It’s just a normal folder on your hard disk, but it has a connection with Google Drive. Anything copied in that folder is kept on your hard disk and also copied to your account at the Google Drive (You just need an Internet Connection to do that). You don’t have to worry about this replication, all of this task runs in the background without your manual interruption. Once it’s done, you can access your files online using a web browser or via tablet / smart phones.

Top 10 YouTube Facts You Need to Know

01. 4 Billion Videos are Watched Every Day

That's right, 4 billion. That includes everything the over 800 million
different users YouTube enjoys every month, not to mention the astonishing
3 billion hours of video that are added every month.

02. Originally was Slated for Online Dating

The creators of the tube originally wanted to make a dating site called
“Tune In Ho0k Up", which was to be heavily influenced by the site Hot0rNot.
After testing the waters, there was a consensus that this was not the way to go.

03. The First Video is About Elephants...or Something

The first video put up on face book was entitled Me at the zoo , and
was footage of YouTube co-founder Jawed Karim discussing elephant
trunks while visiting the San Diego Zoo. This riveting short film has
wracked up over 9 million views at this point.

04. It's Not UTUBE

Universal Tube & Rollform got the worst of this one. Initially people
were attempting to type the address phonetically, which caused mass
confusion for customers of both companies. After a lawsuit by the U
was thrown out, they changed their address to Utubeonline, and Utube
is now a redirecting page for people who suffer this folly.

05. Thank You Janet Jackson

For those of us that remember the great boobgate scandal of Super Bowl XXXVIII, this event served as a launching point for the site. When Karim
was unable to find footage of the previously mentioned Jackson's nipple, it inspired him to help create the site we use to today.

06. 92 Billion Page Views Per Month

That's with an average user visiting the site 14 times a month, and
staying around 25 minutes per visit. Now that's not enough as some
other social networking site, but it's still a pretty nice chunk of time
in your life you'll never get back.

07. Three Homies

Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim all were buds from their
old job, you know, that little thing called PayPal. When that got bought
out by those fat cats over at Ebay, all the boys got bonuses. Sure, they
could have gone to Cabo, but that's so 1998, and this was 2005! So that
cash went into the conception of the YouTube.

08. Across the Pond

Nearly 70% of YouTube's traffic comes from outside the good old USA.
In fact the site is localized in 36 countries, across 54 different languages.
Who did you think was posting all those soccer videos?

09. It's Got Definition

Although only 10% of the sites videos are broadcast in HD, that's
more than any other on the net. This includes thousands of full length
films and television programs.

10. Advertising Pays the Bills

With ad space for over 10,000 companies including Disney, Turner,
and Univision, they've got the department covered. Not to mention
the nearly 3 billion video views per week the site is monetizing.

8 Tech Resolutions for the New Year

At the beginning of a new year, we prepare -- or hope -- to become our better selves. Resolutions often focus on our diets and health, or balancing our families and careers, but you might want to consider adding some tech-focused resolutions to your New Year's to-do list.

Completing tasks like digitizing your photos and cleaning out your inbox will go a long way to make you more organized in 2013.

Check out some of these tech-related New Year's resolutions Mashable staff members are committed to accomplishing in the New Year.

Clean your keyboard. After a year of eating at your desk, crumpling papers, opening boxes, who knows what junk and residue is in your keyboard? Use a duster to eliminate any nasty particles and buildup in your keyboard to make it look like new again.

Digitize your photos. There's really no need to keep shoeboxes filled with photos anymore. Clean out your closet and transfer your images to digital files. You can store your photos online or even print them out in a photo album, which at least keeps them neater looking.

Go through all your emails. This is a difficult one for many people. After signing up for sale alerts and being included in dozens of reply-all emails, perhaps your inbox seems unmanageable. Make a promise to yourself to take some time out each day to delete old emails.

Set privacy filters on your social networks. We've read (and at Mashable, we've written) dozens of stories about privacy changes happening at your most used social networks. Take some times to make sure the information you're publishing to the Interwebs is stuff you want people to see.

Clean up your digital trail. Remember that blog you started, wrote a few posts for, then never logged in again? Make sure if an employer Googles you, all content is appropriate and relevant. Deactivate any old accounts you no longer use, although keep in mind that information may not be gone forever.

Delete apps you're not using . Go through your phone and delete any apps you haven't used in a couple months, so they're not taking up space on your device. Same goes for files on your computer -- delete what you don't need.

Go paperless. This is the year! If you have a laptop, tablet and/or mobile device, you're well equipped to pay your bills and access important documents from anywhere. Scan old papers and convert your paper files into digital files for safe storage -- or at least, as a backup.

Get outside. As much as we love our gadgets, getting fresh air and human interaction should be a high priority. Don't stay glued to your laptop or tablet all the time.
